I give this book 2 stars only because I read it through to the end. I am actually annoyed that I read it through to the end. I felt compelled to try to like it. That was a waste of precious time.

I do not read a lot of "dark" romances but there a few out there that are actually ok. This one, however, is not. The main problem with this story is that Kill knew Cleo/Sarah from the time she was 4 and he was 7. He fell in love with her when she was 14. He became completely devoted to her. Their souls were connected. If one died, so did the other. Then the tragedies occur. He thought she died, so he died as well - he lost all sense of self, conscience, peace, morality etc. When he meets her again, his soul recognizes her. But, because he is so steeped in darkness at this point, he refuses to admit who she is. He refuses to even look into the situation - to see how she came to be at his club etc. He is an extremely high IQ character - genius level is how he is described. Yet he never bothers to find out the truth. He doesn't ask questions or seek answers. He simply yells and screams, issues orders, punishes her, beats her when she pushes him to admit who she is, and then attempts to sell her into sex slavery to a monster.

The thing that stops him from doing this is a little symbol that all of us are very familiar with that represents "I love you". Really? He sees this little symbol and that stops him from being a complete and total evil human being? NONE of the other things that should have clued him in clear it up for him? Just this little symbol that is so overused, there is nothing at all special about it in the year 2016? Are we teenagers now? I thought we were adults reading an adult romance.

Then, after coming back to his sanity, Kill is all I love you and I don't want you to hate me so what am I going to do? I have to get my vengeance but I can't explain anything that happened and I know you don't understand because you still have amnesia about most of your past, but just be patient with me and don't hate me and let's have sex. Oh and someone has broken into my house but don't worry about it, let's just go have sex and you'll be safe because you are with me.

And of course, Cleo/Sarah is all I love you and everything is ok. Just tell me what your plans are and what really happened because I can't
remember and let's have sex because you are so hot and I know you are my soul mate and it doesn't matter all the terrible crap that was done to me because I love you and let's have sex.

And then the people who broke into the house come back and kidnap her. Yep. And by the way, the bad MC club that is so evil that caused all the tragedy in the beginning and is going to bear the brunt of Kill's vengeance is named - wait for it....Dagger Rose.

And last but certainly not least - this is a 'cliffhanger' if you want to call it that because I certainly wasn't hanging on every word. However, there is a second book! So if you really want to know what happened, you have to waste some more money and precious time.

I would prefer a lobotomy.

Ruin Rule Pure Corruption Book 1 edition by Pepper Winters Romance eBooks Reviews

I am always torn about Pepper Winters and her dark novels...they intrigue me at the same time as they can sometimes annoy me (details that are off, letting things go on too long, cliffhangers)...but I still read them and am kept entertained from start to finish.
This one was interesting and complex but at the same time, so many things could have been solved much sooner and it reminded me of a soap opera or tv series that keeps you watching by offering teases and then leaves you hanging till next week...effectively drawing things out at an agonizing pace.
Sarah/Cleo was a strong but not so smart victim and Kill/Art was a messed up and stubborn biker who needed some serious therapy (and a whole bucket load of common sense, considering he was a genius).
If you have read and enjoyed Winters other dark romances, you will probably like this one and as drawn out and upsetting as it was at times, it was still an exciting read.

**** 4 **** "please wake up and remember us" stars
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS - This is both an intriguing read but also a tough read. A woman wakes up in the middle of an MC war, blindfolded, no memory of how she got there. The MC captured five women to sell and for some reason this woman is #6. The president of the MC is in shock when he removes her blindfold - he recognizes her & for some reason this causes him extreme pain. Arthur Killian hates her immediately since she was obviously put in his path to remind him of what he's lost. We don't even know her name for most of the book & then when flashbacks start coming & filling in the blanks she is remembering a more recent time, not the past. Kill is attracted to his captive woman, his "Forgetful Girl" but he is so cruel - "You're not worthy of her name. I can't stand you looking at me with her eyes." And it isn't just verbal abuse, he is violent with her, almost to the point where I put the book away. But this is Pepper Winters so I figured I had to stick with it, and yes it gets better. Cleo has one half of her body covered in burn scars, and the other half covered in beautiful tattoos, ideas that come back to her from her past that she didn't want to forget so she permanently marked them on her skin. Once Kill (AKA Art when he's being sweet) changes his tune about Cleo, he is still angry & withdrawn, ashamed of how he's treated her, so cruel & ugly. Fantastic writing just hard material to read about. In the end I made peace with the fact that Art was so heartbroken & bitter over losing Cleo, and then to think he was being played by someone who looks just like Cleo? OK maybe his bad attitude was justified.
I like the premise of this book. The characters have dimensions, but it should have been one book. It could have been one book if she did not repeat everything so much. Yes, she has amnesia, yes he is troubled. Ok, he needs more time, yes, you already stated 15 times that she is impatient. In this case more pages doesn't mean more content, it just means reading the same thing several times.
One of my biggest pet peeves is reading a book in which the entire conflict is based on lack of communication. I can forgive the amnesia based plot, but I cannot get past the constant "I'll tell you later; I need more time," or the convenient failure to disclose facts to each other because it wasn't the right time. It made for a very long and drawn out book... I found myself bored more often than not with this one. The alpha hero was pretty alpha in the beginning but soon turned tortured and apologetic. Vengeance still burned in his heart, but he was plagued by inner demons he refused to talk about--things he needed to talk about to drive the plot further. Aside from that, there were aggravating discrepancies like two different versions of their first kiss, etc.. Try as I might, I could not get into this story. It was just too slow for me and two aggravating, making me want to scream "Just tell him/her what you know!" My humble opinion? Not Ms. Winter's best work...
